Well, my ranger is quite happy using:
Penetrating shot
Sundering shot
Prepared shot
Asuran scan
Read the wind
I am the strongest
By Ural's Hammer
(optional, usually Favourable winds, or maybe another high damage attack skill if the enemy brings Favourable wind)
Prepared shot is energy management, the two attack skills boosted by asuran scan and by ural's hammer will usually be a serious spike that happily ignores the Warder's Ward against melee.

Have you used this in The Last Hierophant?

I'd suggest bringing Frozen Soil, but apart from that whatever damage you can produce should be good. A spike build like listed above or standard Splinter/Barrage oughta work fine. Either way, you'll want FS 'cause the Rezzes in Slaver's are pretty out of control.

I certainly have used it against the preparatory bosses of Slaver's exile, if that's what you mean. That's why I pointed out that it's nice that it works through Ward against Melee used by the summit Warders (the blocking is very annoying to all physical damage dealers).
If you mean Duncan himself, you could use this one, switching Favourable winds out for Swap, but Perhaps a degen based build would actually be better for Duncan himself.
P.S. I usually leave frozen soil at home - just make sure to kill the Dreamers and Dominators first, and the enemy will exhaust their resses quickly enough.

I used an SoS build on my Nec, which works equally well on a ranger. The spirits are great for killing Duncan himself, since the damage from his defense spells triggers on your spirits instead, and with Armor of Unfeeling and Summon Spirits they can take some hits

And apparently the spirits attack from far enough away that Duncan won't run after them and blow them up with his Channeling spells. Thus, you can summon spirits at their limit of their attack range and sit and wait for them to kill Duncan with no problems whatsoever. Spirits will need to be recast as necessary.

My ritualist paid a visit to Duncan the other day, and what you say is quite wrong. If spirits do damage, that damage affects you. SoS alone hurt, painful bond quickly overwhelmed healers. However, you can safely use Bloodsong and Vampirism, since they don't do damage but life steal.
Also, side issue: why waste yourself on making a less effective SoS when your heroes can do a better job of it?

You were probably getting the feedback from Painful Bond...I'm pretty sure the spirits' auto attacks don't revert back to you. As for the ranger build...Frozen soil like mentioned and d-shot/savage shot for the nasty warders.

As a ranger main, I recommend using an AP spammer skillbar with spiritway heroes to consistently defeat Slavers Exile and Duncan HM on solo H/H (no consets 0:90h, which is slow according to other experienced players).
All credit to Jeydra for comprehensively documenting this (from an elementalist perspective, but the principles and execution are common to all classes):
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/p...t10447337.html (pictures included)
Running the prerequisites on solo H/H is more forgiving and can be completed with various skillbars, yours included, and even in NM the easier bosses take only 10-15min each. Forgewight is challenging in HM.
Running Duncan HM with an SoS skillbar (Channel=12) and discordway heroes was exceedingly difficult (successful without consets but 2:30h), so I do not recommend this on HM because spirits (whilst excellent in both defensive and offensive roles) do not concentrate damage unlike AP spamming (single-target spiking) so the priest-defender groups are often unbeatable without minion support.
Although retired, I would be interested to know if any bow-based ranger builds as suggested by the preceding posts can succeed in Slavers' Exile HM.
Hope this is of help to your original post.
